Austrian Airlines will, for a short time, resume operations on Vienna - Zagreb route. During the Christmas and New Year holidays, Austrian airline will perform 14 operations between the capitals of Austria and Croatia.
Austrian Airlines has been a long-time user of Zagreb Airport and one of the biggest unpleasant surprises in this crisis. The news of the service suspension between Vienna - Zagreb route was totally unexpected.
Although the reason for temporary suspension of Austrian Airlines at Zagreb Airport is clear (low demand due to epidemiological situation), the question remains how that Austrian Airlines still regularly operates to smaller destinations in our region, such as Pristina, Skopje and Sarajevo, and is also present at Belgrade Airport. However, as we wrote as possibility in the announcement of the suspension of this route, Austrian Airlines will shortly re-introduce route between Vienna and Zagreb during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Austrian announces 14 return flights to Zagreb during the Christmas and New Year holidays
The route will be in operation from December 18th until January 3rd, in that period Austrian Airlines will have 14 rotations between Vienna and Zagreb.
Direct flights will be available on the following days: December 18th, Friday, December 19th, Saturday, December 20th, Sunday, December 28th, Monday, December 30th, Wednesday, January 2nd, Saturday and January 3r., Sunday.
DashQ400 aircraft with a capacity of 76 seats have been scheduled for all flights. A larger E195 aircraft with a capacity of 120 seats will operate on just one flight, on Saturday, December 20th.
Austrian Airlines will offer 1,152 seats between Vienna and Zagreb during three weeks of operation
After January 3rd, this route will be suspended again, according to the company's current plan, until March 1st next year. From March Austrian Airlines plans to resume Vienna - Zagreb route with daily flights, this is still subject to change, depending on demand and epidemiological situation.
Unlike other airlines (like KLM, Eurowings and Edelweiss), Austrian will not have direct scheduled flights to coastal airports this winter, the airports in Dubrovnik and Split had chances for such flights, at least during the holiday season.
